Why do the clocks go back?

Summer time in France was very hot this year, with temperatures going to above 40 degrees in some towns especially in the south of France.

However, it’s certainly feeling like autumn as the nights now start to get darker much quicker.

This means it’s soon time for the clocks to change like we do every year.

Here’s what you need to know about the next clock change:

Shorter hours of daylight

French Summer Time is when the clocks are one hour ahead, with more daylight in the evenings.

When this ends, the number of daylight hours becomes shorter.

This happens in France every October, and this year it falls on Sunday, October 27.

When it strikes 2am, they will go back by one hour.

Although the thought of dark days can be depressing with losing an extra hour of sunlight in the evening for the next five months, there is one positive – we will get an extra hour in bed on the Sunday it changes.

An easy way to remember which way the clocks turn for the change is – ‘spring forward, fall back’.
